Free Six-Week Diabetes Prevention Program

Balance Living with Diabetes is a free six-week evidence-based diabetes prevention program. Participants will learn skills that help them manage their Type 2 diabetes. Such skills include choosing a healthy diabetes-appropriate diet, maintaining an active lifestyle for improved blood sugar control, and preventing diabetes complications by practicing preventative care.

Classes are in person at PSR Friendship Cafes located in Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward Counties.

Tai Chi Exercise for Diabetes Prevention

Low-Impact Exercise Program

Tai Chi is an evidence-based diabetes prevention program aimed to improve strength, flexibility, and balance to aid in fall prevention. Tai Chi consists of low-impact movements suitable for older adults with chronic illness. It has been proven to aid in treating musculoskeletal pain and post-traumatic stress disorder, strengthening cardiovascular health, reducing fatigue, improving cognitive function, and boosting overall mood as well as mental health.

Classes are currently held weekly at the following Friendship Cafe locations:
