PSR Petals & Paws Pet Walk to benefit senior citizens and their pets

Event set for May 10 at Wilck’s Lake Park

Petals & Paws Pet Walk 2025

FARMVILLE, Va. (April 21, 2025) – Piedmont Senior Resources (PSR) will host its second annual Petals & Paws Pet Walk on Saturday, May 10, 2025 (rain date: May 17), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wilck’s Lake Park. All proceeds will benefit PSR’s older clients, 60 and above, living in Amelia, Buckingham, Cumberland, Charlotte, Lunenburg, Nottoway and Prince Edward counties — and the pets that love them.

The pet walk promises fun for the whole family with food, craft and corporate vendors, a raffle drawing, silent auction, a pet fashion show, a group pet trail walk, and more. All are invited to attend and participate in the event whether bringing a pet or not. Admission is free for everyone; however, to join the group pet trail walk, a ticket is required:

  • $10 Ticket – Includes entry for one participant in the walk.
  • $35 Ticket – Includes walk entry plus a pet walk t-shirt. (Pre-registration by April 21 is required to receive the t-shirt.)

Pet walk t-shirts can also be purchased separately, but they must be pre-ordered by April 21.

PSR’s Pet Love Program

All funds from the pet walk will benefit PSR’s Pet Love Program, helping supply pet food, pet supplies and veterinary care assistance to qualified older adults in its service area.

“For many of our elderly clients, their pets are more than just companions, they are family, emotional support and a reason to get up each day,” said PSR Nutrition Coordinator Nikki Dean. “At PSR we see firsthand how much these animals mean to the older adults we serve. Raising funds through events like our annual pet walk helps ensure that older adults don’t have to choose between feeding themselves or caring for their beloved pets. Every dollar raised helps keep these vital bonds intact.”

The PSR Pet Love Program started with supplying pet food and has grown to include pet supplies and veterinary care assistance. Currently, 200 clients and approximately 239 pets are enrolled in the program.

Dean shared a recent story of a client who was worried she’d have to dip into her savings to cover an unexpected vet bill for her pet. Thanks to the funds raised during last year’s pet walk, Dean was able to step in and cover the cost of the appointment — allowing the client to get the care her pet needed without touching her savings.

“She was overwhelmed with gratitude and even began to cry over the phone, expressing how incredible it was to know that a program like this exists, one that truly cares about both her and her beloved pets,” said Dean.

“The pet walk is more than a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of the special bond between seniors and their pets,” said PSR Executive Director Justine Young. “At PSR we’re committed to supporting the whole person. That includes honoring the vital role pets play in our clients’ lives. With the community’s help we can ensure that no senior has to give up their furry companion due to financial hardship.”
